I heard that the arsehole motif on this image
is supposed to be the arsehole of a cat.
I'm not sure. It's rumoured.
Welcome to Candy Trips.
I'm Melissa and today we're doing an art tour
of Berlin. It's a bit alternative
and probably not what you think.
There's always fun things on Alex.
People paint the ground or dance samba
or there's some weird flash mob
with everyone dressed as a zombie.
Sometimes you find weird stuff like Kawaii Jesus.
The whole ground is covered in paintings.
I think people should paint the ground
even more. No idea why they stop.
I had been looking for a new shop decoration.
Now we're meeting Theo.
We'll do it like the punks,
by the fountain right in the centre.
There's a reason why it says no drinking water.
This is Theo.
Dead dog hats!
Look, what exactly are we doing today?
I'm a sticker artist and street artist
and I'll present the Berlin sticker scene to you.
Where did it come from,
how did it start and so on.
How long have you been doing it?
For the past six years professionally,
meaning I print some 5,000 stickers
every four months.
I ship them all over the world
and there are sticker swap communities.
I can show you one thing right now.
Parcel stickers are a cheap medium.
You get them in every post office.
They're free, right.
Just take them.
This represents the stickers' freedom.
There are no rules.
You have something you think is cool
or what represents you,
you paint it on to the sticker and stick them.
Like I have a little character called Theo.
This sticker here is for Sören and Steffi.
Those are the trendy in-names in Mitte.
We'll start here.
You can get all sizes and shapes of stickers.
Next up were the "Hi, my name is" stickers.
They're also available in great quantities.
They were for trade fairs.
And the graffiti guys thought it was cool
to have Hi, my name is on them.
You could just put your tag on them.
Then you have 5,000 stickers in your pocket
and you can stick them wherever, all day long.
No-one will care.
Soon is a Berlin street artist
who does paste-ups
with people with gas masks
or he puts the gas masks on their faces.
It's his trademark.
He prints them himself and cuts them,
so they're not round or square,
but a free form.
How do you attach them? Wallpaper glue?
Exactly, that's wallpaper glue.
You get it in DIY shops. For a fiver
you get 20 litres of glue.
But there is also the cheapest way,
if you're broke but need glue,
you buy a kilogram of flour for 40 cents
and boil it with water.
It's called wheat paste and works like glue.
Low budget art.
Where is the line between art and vandalism?
Vandalism starts when you cross people,
when you stick stuff over theirs. And vandalism
definitely on religious institutions
and cemeteries.
This is a road sign which is full of stickers,
typically for Berlin.
Unfortunately, the NPD also uses stickers.
They stuck one on here, but it's torn.
I'd say we'll use this anti Nazi sticker.
We found Steve Urkel! Did I do that?
What's important, we also have Tower.
Tower is a mystery. He doesn't have
a homepage, he doesn't do interviews,
he just makes stickers all day long.
The thing about him is he does it all himself,
manually. Tower is everywhere.
Wherever you are in Berlin,
if you turn around, there's a Tower
on every traffic light or road sign.
But he still does it all manually?
He still does everything manually.
He's a freak. I definitely celebrate him.
No, he didn't. We'd have even more tourists.
A letterbox bird.
I'm photographing art with my new bread roll.
I love my mobile,
and I love food, and this is ultimate...
Yes. For me.
This is Berlin's most extreme staircase, I think.
Neurotitan supports street art in Berlin.
They're my first port of call
when I need input for sticker books.
Right, dear Theo is giving away a huge pack
of stickers with lots of great stickers.
If you want to win it,
send us your favourite sticker board
or your favourite street art from your home town.
Take a picture and send it to us via Twitter
or Facebook. We'll raffle it off. Good luck.
Theo has gone back to putting stickers up.
Maybe I'll put some up, too.
Did you learn something, too?
Write us a comment.
I look forward to seeing you next week.
Oh, thanks for all the cool Candy Tripper pics.
Keep sending them to me or eNtR on Facebook.
If you send us a picture
