Berlin, you're amazing, Berlin!
The Berlin Wall---
---The remains of it are in Washington at the Woodrow Wilson Plaza .
No, no we're in the Ronald Reagan Building.
But we're in the Woodrow Wilson Plaza.
And we currently are celebrating "Berlin Month" or "Berlin Time" in Washington.
This is our second stop
where we see a piece of the Berlin Wall
and we want to tell you about Berlin.
Alle waren so aufgeregt.
It is remarkable that so many fragments of the Berlin Wall are not in Germany any more.
I believe Washington DC has the most pieces of the wall outside of Germany. This is our third stop.
Currently there are many events going on at the Goethe-Institut on the topic Berlin.
It is also worth mentioning that Berlin is celebrating its 775th anniversary,
and the Wall ceased to exist 23 years ago.
The Wall is a symbol for separation of a country, and especially of a city.
The fall of the Wall is a great symbol of freedom, but there are still walls left.
For example, there is a wall between the US and Mexico and there is a wall in Gaza.
We talk a lot about freedom and what it means.
In my opinion, we have to think more about our mental walls, than the physical walls.
I love Berlin. It's many-sided both in terms of the people and also as a city itself.
It's so eclectic. It consists of so many contradictions.
It's a beautiful city, and it's unique because you are able to fulfill your visions
with a small amount of money there. This is good for artists, especially.
That's the reason why many people from all over the world come to Berlin to create their art.
American artists in particular say they come to Berlin
because it is ideal for artists--- it is inexpensive and there are lots of people who appreciate art
whereas their fellow Americans wouldn't understand their art because they are too prudish.
The Goethe-Institut Washington,
on the occasion of the 775th anniversary of the city of Berlin
will have a special event on the 27th of October,
in cooperation with beBerlin,
and we hope you'll join us!
